The gardens and landscape at The Bear Stand were specifically designed to take advantage of topography and terrain, native species and the existing natural setting to comfortably envelop the cabin structure and greet the surrounding forest.

The gardens off the rear glazed gallery at The Bear Stand, take on a natural aesthetic with carefully selected native ground covers, mosses, wild geranium and fledgling local shrubs carefully established around a rocky drainage course at the foot of a granite rise.  It functions as a beautiful transition from forest to house.

Meet “Bear”, the welcome mascot at The Bear Stand. Standing proudly at the leading edge of our decked walkway, he encourages guests to navigate our carefully planned native rock gardens on approach to the main entry of the cabin.

The Lounging Deck at The Bear Stand

Surrounded by mulch beds and native gardens, the main ground floor deck at The Bear Stand hosts outdoor lounging, dining and barbecueing while affording guest a beautiful view over transitional landscapes, through the forest, to our lake beyond.

Extending from the hot tub overlooking our private bay, all the way up to the mud room entry and sauna deck, our landscaped staircase combines native planting with granite slabs, wood-formed concrete treads and mulch beds to create a naturally serene approach to the cabin and water.

A natural boulder retaining wall allows for a subtle and graceful transition from the elevated cabin down to the waterfront. Here, the modernist facade peaks through a break in the naturally forested site, as viewed from one of the mulched footpaths below.
